    Dzanga-Sangha Reserve
    Planning & reference

Zemongo offers a truly wild and remote experience, far from the usual safari crowds. We love the profound sense of solitude and the opportunity to witness pristine forest ecosystems. The chance to encounter rare primates and observe the sheer biodiversity of this untouched reserve is unparalleled.

    Gate Times

Access to Zemongo is strictly controlled and usually arranged through your lodge or tour operator. There are no public gates in the traditional sense. Permits are required for entry and must be secured in advance. We recommend confirming all access arrangements and permit requirements well before your travel dates, as these can be subject to change.

    Tipping

Tipping is customary and appreciated for excellent service. For guides and rangers, we suggest around $10-20 USD per person per day, depending on the quality of the experience. For camp staff, a general tip pool of $5-10 USD per person per day is appropriate. It's best to hand these out discreetly at the end of your stay, often through the lodge manager.

    Dress Code

We advise neutral, earthy tones like khaki, olive green, and brown for game drives and walks to blend in with the environment. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are essential due to the heat and humidity. Pack long-sleeved shirts and trousers for sun and insect protection, especially in the evenings. Comfortable walking shoes or hiking boots are a must, along with a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. In camp, casual and comfortable clothing is fine.

    Photography

Photography is generally permitted, but always ask your guide before photographing people. Be mindful of wildlife; avoid using flash photography directly at animals, as it can startle them. Drones are typically not allowed without special permits and prior authorization, which can be difficult to obtain. We find that a good zoom lens is invaluable for capturing wildlife from a respectful distance.

    Etiquette

Maintain a low noise level on game drives and walks to avoid disturbing wildlife. Always stay within your vehicle or designated areas unless instructed otherwise by your guide. Never feed or approach wild animals. Respect the environment by not littering. In camp, be considerate of other guests' privacy and quiet.
