Conservation Status
Conservation hubFaces a high risk of extinction in the wild.
The mainland clouded leopard is threatened by habitat loss due to deforestation and poaching for its beautiful fur and body parts. While specific recovery programs are limited, conservation efforts focus on protecting its forest habitats, which also benefits other wildlife. Responsible safari tourism helps by funding anti-poaching patrols and providing economic incentives for local communities to protect these forests, thus indirectly aiding the clouded leopard's survival.
The clouded leopard, also called mainland clouded leopard, is a wild cat that has large dusky-grey blotches and irregular spots and stripes reminiscent of clouds. Its head-and-body length ranges from 68.6 to 108 cm with a 61 to 91 cm long tail, which it uses for balancing when moving in trees.
