Conservation hubClose to qualifying as threatened in the near future.
The red-masked parakeet is threatened by habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, which significantly impacts wild populations. While specific large-scale recovery programs are not widely documented, conservation efforts often focus on habitat protection and anti-poaching initiatives. Responsible safari tourism helps by raising awareness of the species' plight and providing economic incentives for local communities to protect natural habitats, thereby reducing pressures from deforestation and illegal capture.
The red-masked parakeet is a medium-sized parrot from Ecuador and Peru. It is popular as a pet and are better known in aviculture as the cherry-headed conure or the red-headed conure. They are also considered the best talkers of all the conures.
